How they're connected
They're neighbouring strategies, so each can be the other's wing. They have a lot in common and often understand each other without explanation.
Both strategies belong to the same centre (head centre), so they deal with a similar theme, each in its own way.
What draws them together
A relationship between a Five and a Six feels like retreating into the warmth when it gets dark early. On the outside they don't show much; what connects them is a quiet steadiness. They read in the same room without disturbing each other and eat together without needing to talk.
Next to the Five's distance, even the cautious Six comes across as the active one, and often takes on that role gladly. The Five likes not having to lead. The Six shows tenderness by being loyal to their partner. The main bond tends to be intellectual: both understand that love is more than feelings.
Where they click
- Loyalty and long-term commitment.
- Both are undemanding and can weather hard times.
- The Six brings warmth, the Five calm and perspective.

Where the friction is
- The Six needs reassurance, the Five doesn't give it.
- The Six reads the Five's silence as an admission of guilt.
- The Six's questioning drives the Five even deeper into their privacy.

Working together
Both are Head Centre strategies, so there's a risk that the collaboration dries up. Ideas take the place of action and caution kills the appetite for experimenting. Both overestimate obstacles and the strength of the competition. Their strength lies in strategy, teaching, planning, and analysis.

The two of you, specifically
This is only a general description of the Five and Six pairing. The Couples Guide goes deeper: you both take the Quick Test, and the guide works with your subtypes. The self-preservation, social, and one-to-one versions of the same strategy behave completely differently in a relationship.
