5Boundary Keeper

Self-preservation Five. The most withdrawn Expert, who guards their space, time, and energy.

Boundary Keeper

Withdraws the most of all the Experts. Needs their own space, clear boundaries, and the certainty that they can manage on their own. Has modest needs and guards their time and energy closely.

Self-preservation Fives need their own space and clear boundaries more than anyone else. They want to be sure they can get by on their own with what they have. They have modest needs, live simply, and guard their time and energy closely.

Of all the Fives, they are the most withdrawn. Home is their refuge, where they can retreat and where no one wants anything from them. They keep their feelings inside and share them only with a very small circle of people. Outwardly, they come across as calm, unobtrusive, and self-sufficient. Some learn to adapt to those around them and seem sociable, so that no one tries to break through their boundaries. Among Fives, they are the most typical.

How to tell it from the others

They differ from the social Five in that they aren't looking for a community of people with the same interest, but for a refuge of their own. They differ from the one-to-one Five in that they aren't looking for one exceptional person to share everything with.

What the self-preservation instinct is

Attention automatically turns to safety and security: health, money, home, food, comfort, and reserves. People with this instinct in first place tend to be practical and reliable and think ahead about what they'll need. Under stress, they retreat into their home base.
