Subtypes · Strategy 4 Unique Individualist

4Sensitive

Social Four. A sensitive, reflective person who often compares themselves with others.

Sensitive

Feels inadequacy and comparison with others most strongly. Perceives things sensitively, goes deep, and talks openly about their feelings. Easily feels they don't fully belong anywhere.

Social Fours most strongly feel that they're not good enough, especially compared with others. They see what others have and they lack, and easily feel like the one who doesn't quite belong anywhere. Their central theme is shame and a sense of inferiority. People around them are often surprised, because these are frequently capable, intelligent people who nevertheless see themselves as lesser. They're even ashamed of their own wishes and needs, and instead of asking directly, they hope someone will notice their suffering and help.

They are sensitive, reflective, and talk openly about feelings. They have a great capacity to understand sadness, loss, and complex emotions, both their own and other people's. They can put into words what others only feel. They are often people with a rich inner world and a strong sense of what is real.

How to tell it from the others

They differ from the self-preservation Four in that they share their suffering rather than carrying it quietly. They differ from the one-to-one Four in direction: the social Four turns pain inward (feeling ashamed and inferior), the one-to-one Four turns it outward (competing and blaming).

What the social instinct is

Attention turns to the group: who belongs to it, what status and role each person has, what matters in society. People with this instinct in first place pick up on the relationships between people, like getting involved in teams and communities, and care about what they contribute.
