Subtypes · Strategy 6 Security-Minded Traditionalist

6Warm

Self-preservation Six. A warm, friendly person who looks for safety in allies.

Warm

The most insecure of all the Traditionalists. Looks for safety through relationships and allies, and comes across as friendly, accommodating, and cautious. Finds it hard to decide without others, which is why they double-check things.

Self-preservation Sixes are the most insecure of all the Sixes. They look for safety through relationships: they need people around them they can rely on. That's why they are friendly, accommodating, and warm, and try to get along well with people.

They feel fear more strongly than any other Six. They find it hard to decide on their own, they like to double-check things, and they see risks that others overlook. At the same time, they have a big heart, they are loyal, and they will do a lot for the people they trust.

On the outside they seem gentle and calm, but inside they experience fear, doubt, and guilt. They don't allow themselves their own anger: they believe that to be liked, they have to be nice, and a nice person doesn't get angry. That's why they struggle to defend themselves when someone attacks them, and look for support from someone stronger.

How to tell it from the others

They differ from the social Six in that they look for security in relationships, not in rules and systems. They see the world in shades of gray and can sit with uncertainty, while the social Six can't stand uncertainty and needs clear categories. They differ from the one-to-one Six in that they show their fear and avoid it, rather than going against it.

What the self-preservation instinct is

Attention automatically turns to safety and security: health, money, home, food, comfort, and reserves. People with this instinct in first place tend to be practical and reliable and think ahead about what they'll need. Under stress, they retreat into their home base.
