Strategy 1
Principled Perfectionist
- Desire
- Goodness, integrity and being at peace with yourself
- Fear
- Making a mistake, failing and being bad inside
How they're connected
Both strategies belong to the same centre (body centre), so they deal with a similar theme, each in its own way.
What draws them together
If there are opposites among the nine strategies, they are the One and the Eight. At first, the One is fascinated by the Eight's strength, confidence, and freedom. The Eight is drawn to the One's discipline and good intentions. The One's moral stance strikes them as genuine.
Both strategies belong to the "anger" group. Both think in black and white and are convinced they're right. The One is right because they are good. The Eight is right because they don't follow other people's rules. That's exactly what makes the relationship explosive, but also alive.
Where they click
- A shared sense of justice.
- Direct, honest communication without games.
- The One teaches the Eight about boundaries; the Eight teaches the One to go after what they want.

Where the friction is
- A fight for control and over who is right.
- The One sees the Eight as rough and lawless.
- The Eight sees the One as moralising and uptight.

Working together
At work, the Eight is the "instinct" and the One the "conscience." They can join forces or fight for control: the One manages "the one right way," the Eight in the style of "my way or the highway." A One as the boss should judge the Eight purely on performance. When the Eight is doing good work, it's best to leave them alone.

The two of you, specifically
This is only a general description of the One and Eight pairing. The Couples Guide goes deeper: you both take the Quick Test, and the guide works with your subtypes. The self-preservation, social, and one-to-one versions of the same strategy behave completely differently in a relationship.
