How to Recognize Them
- Speaks directly, loudly, and bluntly, saying exactly what they think.
- Has a commanding presence and fills the room with their posture and voice.
- Decides quickly and gets into action; slowness annoys them.
- Gets frustrated by injustice, manipulation, and evasiveness.
- Responds to criticism with a counterattack, but respects criticism that's direct and fair.
- Protects the people they consider their own.
- Seeks intensity in their free time: sport, good food, strong experiences.
Who They Get Confused With
An Eight is confused with a Three (both are assertive), a Seven (both have lots of energy and dislike being held back), and a counterphobic Six (both seem fearless). A social Eight who takes care of others can resemble a Two or a Nine. But forcefulness and anger can have completely different causes, such as fear or a sense of injustice. What matters with an Eight is that they resist being weak or controlled, and that only shows over time and from what the person says about themselves.
How to Deal With Them
- Speak directly and honestly, without beating around the bush.
- Don't be afraid to disagree, but have your arguments ready.
- Keep your word; once trust is lost, it's hard to win back.
- When they show a softer side, take it as a sign of trust and don't take advantage of it.
