Why People Confuse Them
Both strategies are charming, want to be liked and know how to win people over. The most common mix-up is between a Two with a Three wing and a Three with a Two wing. A Two with a One wing and a Three with a Four wing aren't much alike.
What the Difference Is
Both win people's favor, but differently. The Two focuses on the other person: they notice how they're doing, give them attention and help, and hope to be valued as someone close. The Three works on themselves. They want to be so good and attractive that attention turns to them. They want relationships, but the closer they get, the more uneasy they feel in them.
The Two has ambitions but finds it selfish to go after a goal directly. The Three goes all in, and when they're not the best, they feel they've wasted their potential. The Two shows feelings easily; the Three tends to be more closed off and has trouble reaching their emotions. Under pressure, the Two keeps pleasing others for a long time until they explode. The Three chases performance until they burn out and run out of energy.
Subtypes: The one-to-one Three, who wants to be attractive and support their loved ones, is easily confused with the Two, and the social Two, ambitious and successful, with the Three.
Three Questions That Settle It
Answer honestly, based on how things usually are, not how you'd like them to be.
- How do you win people over at a party?
2More likely a Two if you ask how they're doing and notice what they need.
3More likely a Three if you try to impress with how you come across and what you can do.
- How do you pursue your goals?
2More likely a Two if it feels uncomfortable to chase your own success alone.
3More likely a Three if you go straight for the goal and want to be the best at it.
- What happens when a relationship gets really deep?
2More likely a Two if closeness feels good and you want even more of it.
3More likely a Three if you start to feel uneasy and would rather get back to work.
