Strategy 1
Principled Perfectionist
- Desire
- Goodness, integrity and being at peace with yourself
- Fear
- Making a mistake, failing and being bad inside
Why People Confuse Them
Both strategies take their conscience seriously and want to be useful. Both can set aside their own comfort for a good cause, and both like to think of themselves as the decent ones. The most common mix-up is between a One with a Two wing and a Two with a One wing, because each carries a piece of the other.
What the Difference Is
The One helps because it's the right thing to do. They lean on principles and on how things should be, and the personal relationship comes second. The Two helps a specific person and wants it to mean something between them. Their help is always personal.
The One guards their independence and hates having someone interfere with their work. The Two seeks closeness and likes being needed. The One doesn't show pleasant feelings much, but makes dissatisfaction known right away. The Two easily shows affection and gratitude, but struggles with anger and tends to express it in roundabout ways.
Three Questions That Settle It
Answer honestly, based on how things usually are, not how you'd like them to be.
- When you help someone, what pleases you most?
1More likely a One if what matters most to you is that the job was done properly and honestly.
2More likely a Two if what matters most to you is that the other person appreciates that it was you who helped them.
- How do you handle someone interfering in your work?
1More likely a One if it annoys you and you want to follow your own process without outside interference.
2More likely a Two if you don't mind working together and are more bothered when no one pays attention to you.
- Which do you find easier to tell others?
1More likely a One if it's easier for you to say what's wrong than to say that you care about someone.
2More likely a Two if you show affection easily but find it hard to admit that someone has upset you.
